The West Sussex villages of Amberley, Houghton Bridge and North Stoke, in an
Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty at the foot of the South Downs, flourish
with pubs, B&B's and attractions, including the Amberley Wildbrooks and
Amberley Working Museum. The area is popular for walking, birdwatching and other
country pursuits.
Amberley has a 12th century church, a junior school, shop and post office, pottery,
four pubs in the immediate area, a riverside restaurant, one of the finest country
house hotels in the country, and a range of good value bed & breakfast accommodation.
Visitors to Amberley in the past range from Charles II, who stayed at the castle,
to World War 2 pilots, who were stationed at Tangmere and billeted at the Bridge
Inn. It has attracted countless artists over the years.
